Once left behind Christmas holidays, we face to January slope, time of diets and austerity to compensate all Christmas excesses. However, before starting to think about this long and steep slope, in Spain we splash out once again, in the arrival of the wise men. Those Biblical characters, who brought presents to the infant Jesus about 2000 years ago, nowadays they go to all Spanish houses to leave presents to the most little ones and to all those who are not so little. Well, they remembered DILO learn Spanish and left a present of much usage for this 2015, the new edition of the Spanish language Dictionary.
This dictionary has got the aim to collect the general lexicon used in Spain and Hispanic countries. To carry out this publication and all previous ones since the year 1780, the Royal Academy of language has met with its sister academies of America and Philippines and these have studied what words of recent use are among natives of every Hispanic country.
Since its first publication, the dictionary has doubled the number of lexicon reaching 93,111 words. In this last publication it has been many terms to review, to study and to accept or to reject. For example, removal of terms, revision of foreign expressions and acceptation of new meanings such as, antiarrugas, mutar and abdominal.
Referring to the use of new generalized terms during the economic crisis, scholars have though appropriate to include the words, mileurista and prima de riesgo among others.
The vocabulary regarding to the technology sector is the most updated. Now we can find in the dictionary words like hacker, browser, pantallazo,(take a picture of the screen) tablet, wifi, tweet and its variants tuitear y tuitero.
Within the new Americanisms we find terms like amigovio, basurita, motoneta, papichulo, and ziper.
About the words finde and escrache; the professionals of the Hispanic academies have not considered justified their inclusion in the dictionary, because of the lack of written testimonies.
From DILO learn Spanish we can say we have some work to get familiarized ourselves with this new lexicon, put it into practice in our lessons and spread it through all of you.
